The Netherlands-based Shipyard De Hoop has successfully
launched and delivered the new luxury river cruise vessel
'Super Ship Antoinette'.
Handed over to operator Uniworld Boutique River Cruise
Collection at a christening ceremony at the end of March, the new
vessel has an overall length of 135 metres and a narrow beam of
11.43 metres. The four-deck design, the largest in the Uniworld
fleet, contains a total of 73 suites -- all with river views -- with a
maximum capacity of 164 passengers.
No expense was spared in the layout of the vessel, with the
opulent interior arguably the most luxurious to be found upon a
river cruiser anywhere in the world. Shipyard De Hoop worked
closely with Uniworld and its sister company, Red Carnation
Hotels Group, throughout the design process to create an interior
with a feel reminiscent of a late 18th century Chateau de
Versailles. Fine antiques and world-class paintings adorn the public
areas, highlighted by a three-metre Strauss Baccarat chandelier
-- which originally hung in New York's famed Tavern in the Green
-- as the centrepiece of the two-storey lobby.
Guest facilities include a state-of-the-art, mosaic-tiled, heated
swimming pool, a 20-seat movie theatre, a panoramic main lounge
with full service bar, restaurant, fitness centre and massage room.
All guest cabins are lavishly appointed with handcrafted beds,
fine linens, individual climate control, direct dial telephones,
flat-screen satellite televisions and marble bathrooms. All top
deck suites and staterooms feature a full open-air private
balcony, which can convert into an enclosed conservatory at the
In keeping with modern cruising trends, the 'SS Antoinette' also
boasts impressive green credentials, being powered by the latest
low-noise, low-vibration engine which exceeds all standard
regulations and being fitted with a sophisticated waste
Patrick Jansen, owner of De Hoop shipyard, stated, "The 'SS
Antoinette' is a highly customised vessel, more so than any other.
We have used new techniques to ensure 'SS Antoinette' truly is the
next generation of vessel for the luxury cruise market."
Having entered service at the end of March, 'SS Antoinette' will
spend her first season operating on Uniworld's popular eight-day
"Castles along the Rhine" service.
John Molinaro, general manager, Uniworld Boutique River
Cruises Australia, said: "I had the pleasure of joining our global
team for the christening of the new ship, and I could not have
been happier with the finished product. The ship is bigger, better,
and more luxurious than any other, again raising the bar in
boutique river cruising. There is no doubt in my mind that 'S.S.
Antoinette' is the most spectacular river cruise ship in Europe."
