Following an official signing of delivery
protocols on June 8, the heavy lift vessel
'Jumbo Jubilee' was delivered to her new
owners in August.
Built by Damen's Galati shipyard in
Romania, the ship is the fourth and final in
a series of J1800-class lift vessels for Jumbo
Shipping. The success and demand in the
offshore industry for 'Jumbo Jubilee's'
predecessor and sister vessel 'Fairplayer'
(Ships and Shipping, January 2009, p15),
suggests a bright future for the latest vessel
which boasts an impressive 1,800 tonne lift
capacity across two cranes.
Classed by Lloyd's Register and based
in the busy port of Rotterdam, The
Netherlands, the vessel measures 144.8
metres in overall length on a beam of 26.8
metres. The ship's 8.1-metre maximum
draught provides both stability and a
carrying capacity of 12,650 tonnes.
However, like her sisters, the real value of
this vessel lies in the lift capacity provided
by the twin 900-tonne Huisman-Itrec
cranes, which are supplemented by two
auxiliary hoist travelling trolley 37.5-tonne
cranes, "manriding" approved, and two
ten-tonne sling-handling hoists.
'Jumbo Jubilee' is powered by a pair of
MaK 9M32C engines, each rated at
4,500kW, supplemented by twin 3000kW
PTO AEM SE630-M4 generators. These
drive Wärtsilä 4,350mm controlled pitch
propellers, whilst a Wärtsilä 1,500kW bow
thruster provides further manoeuvrability.
In addition, an 1,824kW AEM SE500-M4
generator is coupled to an 1,825kW
auxiliary Caterpillar 3516B engine.
A total container hold capacity of 426TEU
and a total hold capacity of 18,310 cubic
metres are also features of the 'Jumbo Jubilee'.
The ship's electronics are supplied by
Alphatron and Alewjinse, while the radar,
radio and sonar equipment is all supplied by
JRC. The interiors are fit out by Helmers, and
the paints and coatings are supplied by Jotun.
It is the demonstrated power and
versatility of its sister-ships that makes the
'Jumbo Jubilee' addition to Jumbo
Shipping's fleet so full of potential.
