Bijlsma Shipyard, 'Priscilla' is an
example of the Dutch expertise in
It is classed by Bureau Veritas and flies
the flag of The Netherlands.
The dry cargo / container carrier was
designed by Dutch company Conoship --
an amalgamation of yards and services --
which, along with Bijlsma and many
European shipbuilders, has survived the
general migration of shipbuilding activity
to Asia by concentrating on niche and
specialist vessel design and construction,
particularly small and shortsea ships.
'Priscilla' has an overall length of 88.97
metres and a length between perpendiculars
of 84.99 metres with a beam of 11.8 metres,
a depth of 6.9 metres and a draught of 5.05
metres. She has a gross tonnage of 2,281GT
and a net tonnage of 684NT.
The steel vessel is powered by a single
Wärtsilä W8L20 main engine driving a
Scana propeller through a Scana gearbox.
Auxiliary power is developed by Sandfiroen
Technics generators and a Verhaar side
thruster enhances vessel manoeuvrability.
She has a Rolls-Royce Marine steering
system, a maximum speed of eleven knots
and a cruising speed of eight knots.
'Priscilla' has a deadweight of
3,246DWT and a total argo hold capacity
of 104TEU (with 56TEU in the vessel's
single hold and 48TEU on deck).
The majority of the vessel's suite of
navigation and communication electronics
were supplied by SAM Electronics, with other
electronics such as the vessel's alarm system
from Netherlands company Alewijnse.
Paints and coatings were supplied by
Hempel while safety equipment was
supplied by Dutch company Datema. The
vessel's liferafts are from UK company RFD
and its rescue boat is from Dutch company
'Priscilla' has a crew of eight.
In March 2004, Bijlsma Shipyard
became part of the VeKa Group, although
the brothers Roel and Arend Bijlsma
remain in key positions at the yard.
